PRIVACY

Privacy and analytics

Smoke Window is a static, client-side site. This page explains what stays in your browser, what official data providers receive, and how Google Analytics measures site visits.

Information stored in your browser

Smoke Window may save your selected location and display preferences in versioned, validated local storage so the site can restore them on your device. It does not store air-quality observations, weather history, diagnoses, or forecast history. You can remove this local information through your browser’s site data controls.

Requests to official data providers

Your browser downloads forecast, observation, weather, map, and reported-fire data directly from the official providers named on the relevant page. Those providers receive ordinary web-request information such as your IP address, browser headers, and the requested coordinates or files, subject to their own policies. Smoke Window does not receive or retain a server-side history of those requests.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics uses page URLs and page titles—including public location routes you view—plus the standard browser, device, and session information Google collects by default. Google Analytics may set identifiers such as the _ga cookie to distinguish visits.

Smoke Window sends no custom analytics events containing forecast values, AQI or AQHI observations, weather, fire reports, search text, or your selected location. The site does not use Google Ads, DoubleClick, or advertising features.

Read Google’s Google Analytics privacy disclosures and default data collection documentation.

Your choices

Browser settings can block or remove cookies and other site data. Google also provides a Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics does not prevent access to Smoke Window’s forecast pages.

Updates

This notice may change when the site’s storage, analytics, or data providers change. The description above applies to Smoke Window’s current sitewide Google Analytics configuration.
